Fascial Counterstrain (FCS)

A gentle, very powerful, highly advanced hands-on technique to release fascial restrictions and reduce pain.

Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) is a highly specialized manual therapy that identifies and corrects deep-seated restrictions in the body's connective tissue, known as fascia. Unlike traditional treatments that may focus only on muscles, FCS addresses the 'protective reflexes' of the entire system, including nerves, arteries, and internal organs.

  • Gently releases deep tension
  • Targets root causes of pain
  • Suitable for all ages
  • Extremely precise methodology
Benefits of FCS

This technique is effective for a wide range of patients, from those suffering from chronic neck and back pain to individuals with joint stiffness, persistent headaches, or sports injuries. Because it targets the root cause of dysfunction rather than just masking symptoms, the results are often both immediate and long-lasting.

During a session, patients can expect a pain-free experience. The therapist uses precise, gentle positioning to shorten the restricted tissue, which sends a signal to the nervous system to 'turn off' the reflex. You may feel a gentle warmth or a sense of relaxation as blood flow returns to the area and tension melts away.

Visceral Counterstrain Can Impact Organ Function?

Yes it can, because the visceral fascia is innervated (fed by) the same nerves that lead to the organs themselves. Irritation of these nerves can cause minor organ complaints such as urinary urgency, chronic constipation or unknown abdominal pain, back, neck and shoulder pain.

What to expect post fascial treatment

Fascial Counterstrain works to address deep restrictions & habitual patterns within fascial system within the body. Fascia is a connective tissue in the body. Your treatment session with manual therapy addressing fascia especially, will have helped to initiate the process of releasing these patterns. This process doesn’t end once you are out of the treatment room. Fascial system continues to the work begun in treatment session, to find healthier, freer patterns. This may continue for hours or even days after treatment. This is completely normal. You may find yourself wanting to stretch or move in ways you would not normally. You may feel energized, tired, relaxed, emotional, calm, quiet, exhilarated, grounded, moody, or anywhere in between. Healing is a process, and not a one off event. This means that over the next few days, you are encouraged to listen to your body, & help this process as much as possible. You are encouraged to be gentle with yourself. It will be helpful to drink plenty of water to help flush out the toxins in the areas that were restricted, & to rehydrate your body. If you are tired and are able to, then rest. But never push into pain that feels injurious. Most people feel improvement immediately, however some may feel sore, or temporarily stirred up. This is part of the healing process. Just like with any other therapy or form of treatment, you may feel worse before you get better. This is normal, and will pass. Your body is shifting its alignment into healthier ways of being. As restrictions in the fascia are released, & the body works to integrate the treatment, you may feel achiness in unfamiliar areas, or in rare instances, feel sore all over. This may be your body asking for more attention as deeper layers of restrictions are uncovered.

  • Gently stretch these areas if you can. In most cases, any soreness will dissipate within a couple of days of treatment, and then you are likely to feel freer within yourself. Follow up treatment is recommended to continue the progress made today.

  • Avoid dehydrating drinks like tea/coffee/soft drinks for atleast 48 hrs after treatment.

  • Taking a bath (with epsom salt) after treatment can drastically reduce the chance of post treatment soreness.

  • Even taking a 15-20 min walk post treatment to flush body toxins & get your blood flow moving.

  • Avoid performing any type of strenuous activity for 2-3 days following your treatment. This rest period helps with the body process of healing and to get rid itself of metabolic waste/toxins/inflammation that has been accumulated over time.

  • If the increase in symptoms or pain persists longer than 48 hrs, then please call the clinic.
